Recently, we had a chance to talk to some of our clients to get their perspective on what exactly they’re always looking for and while some answers were expected, others were certainly surprising.
- Leadership Skills
This was listed as one of the most desirable skills by our clients and it’s a no brainer. Employers are always looking for candidates with proven self – initiative, even if they don’t have managerial experience. Candidates that go the extra mile and embrace challenges are always great assets to any organization. So the question is, when was the last time you did something out of the ordinary?
- Communication Skills
Think about it. You’re always interacting with people in the workplace at some point or another, whether as a colleague or service provider or even a representative of the company. Professional relationships, especially good ones, are built on consistent and effective communication, but are you communicating effectively?
- Problem Solving Skills
Experts will always be quick to point out problems but what employers are more interested in is in your ability to solve problems as they arise and whether you’re a solution to a problem they’re currently facing or just another observer. This skill usually goes hand in hand with analytical thinking. Remember, in order to solve a problem, you first have to identify it.

- Strong Planning and Organizational Skills
Most jobs require the performance of a variety of tasks and employers want to feel assured that you can multi task and prioritize your work to avoid missing deadlines which could cost the organization in the long run.
- Active Learner
When was the last time you read a new book in your industry or attended a training? In a constantly changing world, it pays to be aware of new trends in your industry especially technology related skills due to their tendency to become outdated very fast. Being an active learner indicates your flexibility and adaptability to new situations to employers, a great advantage in today’s dynamic environment.
